The inventor's niece helped inspire
her to create the miniature warbdrobe collection. |
Kaylee is the inspiration of the Kayleebug Line. I was able to
reproduce historically acurate clothing for her and her dolls teaching
her about the cultures and time periods of the world.
A trip to library would enable us
to research history. A trip to the fabric shop would enable the two of us
to carefully select the textiles and finally expert construction would
begin. Careful measurement and fitting were detailed for each dress and
design.
Moppets were used during the 17th century while dressmakers
applied their skills for use in the fine dresshops. Manniquins were not
easily nor quickly shipped across the ocean, and the demand was great. Instead,
miniatures (dolls) were used.
Kaylee understands this as a result of
creating "The Kayleebug Line."
I have always been fascinated with historical dress and found research
and design in historical costuming to be rewarding.
I began working with the Singer Company in 1976. It was there that
I learned how to operate a sewing machine, as well as developed
sales and management skills.
After the birth of my son in 1980, I began to create children’s
wear and costumes. This was my first foray into designing clothing.
In 1988, I opened a bridal store that offered an extensive line
of formalwear, accessories and baptismal gowns.
Unfortunately, a flood destroyed my store. However, I used the
opportunity to attended design school, where received a degree in
apparel fashion design. Currently I am a costume shop foreman at
a local university.
Working with students from around the world, from various cultures,
inspired me to create authentic miniature clothing for dolls. I
received U.S. Patent for my miniature wardrobe collection in October
2003.
