I
have been a police officer for more than 15 years. Although this
had no bearing on the invention of the Sock Cop, it was instrumental
in the name of the product.
My wife and I have a unique relationship: she does most of the
housework and I look for ways to make housework easier. With a family
of five and a sock-eating dryer, we ended up with more single socks
than pairs.
One day while sorting a mountain of socks she turned to me and said "I can't believe someone hasn't invented a way to keep these socks together in the washer and dryer.
The Sock Cop's original design was melted down shower rings fashioned into clips, which didn't work well. Although there was a tremendous need for a solution to this problem, no one seemed to be addressing it. Our challenge was to design a clip that would be washer and dryer safe; keep its integrity when subjected to extremely high temperatures found in most dryers; not be affected by chemicals such as bleach and laundry detergents; be simple enough to use; yet remain safe and effective on any size sock. After many prototypes (eight to be exact) and stubborn persistence, we developed the Sock Cop as it is today – functional and easy to use.
